Rabies issues...~Aug. 14, 2003~ Well, things might not be in the free and clear to get Loki here just yet. Called the vet to find out what was needed to "import" him into Italy and there are 2 main things. A dual health certificate, which means it's both english and italian, and a rabies shot over 30 days old, but less than a year old. Now most vets won't give the rabies shot until the dog is 12 weeks old. That would put the shot for Loki at Nov 8, and him not able to come to Italy until Dec 8. We were planning on coming back here before the beginning on Dec. And some vets won't do it until 16 weeks, which would be Dec 8 for the shot, and Jan 8 for Loki in country. What's the deal with the rabies shot? Wouldn't it just be ok, since his mom was vaccinated, to bring him and get it done here? I mean, breeders ship puppies all the time. Only difference is this puppy will actually be with the owner. I'm going to talk to Marty and the airlines and see about a) Loki getting the shot early, and b) possibly getting a waiver from the airline since it's supposedly them that sets the 30 day policy to begin with. Cripes, I feel like this is getting more and more complicated by the minute... And the kicker is that around here, it's not an issue. Parvo, now that's the issue around here... *rolls her eyes* Reminds me of Melvin, a pup/dog that Frank got about 6 months before we split up that contracted parvo. Spent a lot of damned money keepin' that dog alive only to have Frank abandon him when he left the island and end up in the pound. Spent over the cost of Loki just to for the vet stay and meds there. And that's not including what we than had to take home for him and such. I still say the only reason he got that dog was to annoy the snot out of me. Did you miss something? Check and see... |
