Guerrilla Girls~Sept. 21, 2003~ I'm at work, and I'm bored. So what else is new? Well, I cuise on over to my buddy list to see what friends have written, than hop on over to Broomcloset's journal, and start going to different links. There I fine The Green Fairy, so head over there to see what it's about. After reading a bit of her journal, and enjoying it, and thinking it's just GOT to be a Brit writing it, I start looking at some of her links. One of the ones she had was for Guerilla Girls. Not knowing what it is, I click to investigate. At first I find some of it humourous, than enlightening. Than some of it starts to annoy me. Not because they're putting it out there, but because it's there in the first place. Take this poster on rape statistics. Or this one on women in jobs versus a museum. Or this one on Newt Gangrich, and I know I spelled that wrong, but I don't care. Not all of it is as harsh. Hell, some of it is quite funny. Like the Estrogen Bomb. That, to me, is funny. But it also makes a point. Now, I've never been one to call myself a feminist. I like having a guy open a door for me at times. Well, when he's got it before I'm close enough for it to make me wait and slow down if he is getting it. But in reading some of this, does it make me a feminist for wanting equal rights? But in getting those equal rights, is that going to take away the little niceties in treatment that I do enjoy? I don't like being though incompetent about something because I'm a woman, but I also don't want to attempt moving heavy furniture that I know will hurt me. See, it's a double edged sword there. Though I guess lots of things in life are. You have to take the good with the bad and than weigh which outcome is more acceptable in the long run. Or is that just settling? Did you miss something?
