"All that is for you to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."~Jun. 19, 2003~ Last month, Random Acts of Journaling asked What is your favorite quote and why? I intended to write on that one, but never quite got to it. So I'm doing it now, and will submit it and hope I'm forgiven for being late. Frodo: I wish The Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had ever happened. Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but it is not for us to decide. All that is for you to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you. The part I love is the last bit Gandalf says, "All that is for you to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you." I've always loved that and always will. It may not be my absolute ultimate favorite quote, but it's in the top 5, that's for sure. I've never been much into comparing the Lord of the Rings story with life, or anything else, trying to enjoy it at face value, and not go overboard, but this has always stuck with me as a wonderful thing to keep in mind to keep yourself grounded in a way. It helps me stop and think about what's important, and where I should actually be spending my time and energy. Much to my chagrin, this isn't always the way it happens. And it's at those times, when I'm finally able to catch my breath, when the world finally slows down to where I can put two fragmented abstracts together into one coherent thought, this comes back to me. Am I really doing what I want to be doing? Is what I'm doing making me happy, or wil lit help me in my life and with what's important to me? If it's not, well, than why do it...?
